INTRODUCTION: the Republic of Slovakia (Slovensko or Slovenská republika) is a Country rich of history and tradition, situated in East-Central Europe. Unfairly overshadowed by the more famous Czech Republic, Slovakia actually boasts a rich heritage of splendid and lively towns that has nothing to envy to its illustrious “neighbour”.

Entry requirements: neither passport nor visa is required for European citizens of the Member States. A valid identity card is sufficient. For stays longer than 90 days it is necessary to register at a police station.
Most of the European driving licenses are accepted.
Travelling with pets: small sized pets like cats, dogs and ferrets must travel with animal passport (in force since 2004) and have an identification microchip or tattoo. Also, they must be vaccinated against rabies. Dogs must also be vaccinated against cimurrus.
Health and safety: both private and public health structures do not always comply with the European standards. No vaccination is required, unless you plan to visit woods and green areas. In this case it would be opportune to vaccinate against encephalitis and ticks.
It is also advisable to bring the magnetic card for health assistance.
General safety is good, there are no particular danger zone, but pay attention when moving outside the big city centres.
Climate: Slovakia enjoys a temperate climate, with generally rainy hot summers and very humid cold winters, characterised by rainfalls and snowfalls.

Economy: the economy of Slovakia is in full development. Agriculture represents a strategic sector, with one third of the national territory suitable for cultivations. The major products are sugar beetroots, potatoes, corn and wheat. On the contrary, there are no particular mineral resources available. The industrial sector remains the bearing column of the economy, employing 30% of the workmanship. The industrialization process started after the Second World War, and since 1989 it revolves around light manufacture: textile, shoe making, wood and paper processing, ceramic. The tertiary sector is on expansion.
Electricity: voltage: 220 V - Frequency: 50 Hz. It is advisable to bring a plug adapter.
Post offices, banks and telephone: post offices in Spain are open from 8.00 am to 18 and until midday on Saturday. Banks are open Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 16 pm.
