Ponte di Rialto (Rialto Bridge) Venice

Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto) was built in just three years between 1588 and 1591. It was a permanent replacement for the boat bridge and three wooden bridges, which cross the Grand Canal. It has three walkways for two along the outer balustrades and a wider central walkway leading between two rows of small shops of jewelry, linens, Murano glass, and many other items. Ponte di Rialto is 24ft. arch was designed to allow passage of galleys. The massive structure was built on some 12000 wooden pilings still supporting the bridge more than 400 years later.
