Ghetto - Venice

Ghetto was an area where Jews were forced to live. They were not allowed to leave from sunset to dawn.  For this, guards were posted and the gates were sealed. Jews were only allowed to come in Venice for money lending. Where Jews were allowed to live, space was limited. Therefore the Jews didn’t have any choice to build. When Napoleon arrived in 1797, Jews were allowed to move any where in Venice but they got full freedom in the 19th century.
