In 1471, Pope Sisto 4th donated a collection of bronze statues to the city of Rome, from which the Capitol Museums would have seen the light.
Since then, the collection has enriched with valuable works.
Even though inside the museum are hosted works of the medieval, renascent and baroque age, the museums are mainly renowned for the classical works, like the equestrian statue of Mark Aurelius, or the Dying Galatea, just to mention a few.
The Capitol She-Wolf, symbol of Rome, is also part of the collection.
