How to move around Porto

Tickets for all public transports in Porto can be recharged on the Andante carsd.
Porto for a few days you may buy an Andante Tour card, which entitles to unlimited journeys on the entire urban transport network (metro, bus, tram, Funicolar dos Guindais, urban railway CP). There are two typologies of card: Andante Tour 1 can be used within 24h from first validation (€ 5,00) and Andante Tour 3, within 72 h from first validation (€ 11,00).
Alternatively, if you think you are not going to make a great use of public transport, you may purchase the Andante Azul card(€ 0,50), which is valid one year, and gives the possibility to recharge single tickets, 10 ticket carnet or daily travel tickets for one zone only (Andante 24).

Underground

Following long and complicated excavation works, Porto has been finally provided with 5 underground lines, operating from 6.00 am to 1.00 am.
Four of these lines (A,B,C,E) connect the suburban areas north of the city with the centre , and they all terminate at the Estádio do Dragão, while line D cuts the city north-east to south-west, crossing with the other lines and passing over the bridge Dom Luís I until the opposite bank, near Vila Nova de Gaia.

Line A (blue): to/from Matosinhos.
Line B (red): to/from Póvoa de Varzim.
Line C (green): to/from Maia.
Line D (yellow): from the'Hospital São João to Vila Nova de Gaia.
Line E (violet): from/to the airport

Considering that 4 out of 5 lines basically cover the same paths with the same stops, and that the main districts are all within walking distance, probably you won’t be using the underground very often, whereas it remains the best and fastest way to reach the city from the airport and vice versa, or to visit the Casa da Música, situated a bit further from the city centre.
The underground network also includes the cableway Funicolar dos Guindais, which climbs up to Avenida Gustavo Eiffel until Rua Augusto Rosa.
