The Dome of Milan

Duomo Milano

Unmissable destination for any tourist and traveller, the city shows its grandeur yet at the arrival in its two international airports, or in the spectacular train station, covered with original and ancient domes.

Absolutely unmissable for any visitor, this is the symbol monument of the city, with the famous golden statue of the Madonnina standing out from the top of the highest spire, at 108.5 mt. from the ground.

The statue is a symbol of protection and enlightenment for the city.

The first stone for the construction of this church was laid down in the 14th century, and was completed with the façade in 1813 upon request of Napoleon, who chose this church to be crowned King of Italy.
Inside, the Dome is made up of 52 pillars, dividing the 5 naves forming a sort of Gothic tunnel.

The Dome lies in the heart of the city centre, in the eponymous square which has been for centuries the scene of many cultural, social, music and religious events.

Served by both the red and the yellow line of the underground, the square is easy to reach in short time from every corner of the city.

Giving our back to the Dome, on the right side lies the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, which leads to piazza della Scala, while in front of us, via Mercanti (which has been the seat of the region Lombardy) and via Dante, lead us to the castle.

The square Dome, beside its beauty, also represents the perfect starting point for a visit to Milan.
