Castello Sforzesco and Parco Sempione - Milan

Castello Sforzesco Milano

From the Dome, following the pedestrian streets via Mercanti and via Dante, you will get to Largo Cairoli, where the view opens on to the majestic square piazza Castello, seat of the Sforza Castle.

A big fountain with always changing water games welcomes the visitor at the entrance. Admission to the castle is free, with the exception of the museums inside.

Dating back to the 14th century, the castle was destroyed and built again in 1450 by the Sforza family, and afterwards it underwent numerous modifications in the course of history. Napoleon contributed a lot to these modifications.

On 23rd June 1800, he ordered the total demolition of the building, which was started one year after, and then again it was built and destroyed various times.

During the 20th century it was severely damaged by the two world wars, but an accurate reconstruction plan completed in 2005, brought the Castel back to its original splendour.

The Castle is situated in the middle of the beautiful Sempione park, a garden rich of streams, lawns and trees, representing a green lung for the city. At the end of the park starts the famous Corso Sempione, seat of the Italian Tv (RAI) and other important international companies.
