The visit to Trinity College library, with entrance fee, is not to be missed for whoever visits Dublin or loves books. In a wing of the University crammed with volumes from floor to ceiling, there is on display to the public some unique works and first editions. One of the first editions of the Divine Comedy is exhibited in a display cabinet next to the works of William Shakespeare. Original documents are also on display, among which texts from world literature and one of the last remaining copies of the Republic of Ireland's proclamation.
The library also has on show a harp from the XV century. Legend attributes it to the Irish king Brian Boru.
The visit to the library is preceded by a permanent exhibition dedicated to the Book of Kells, a Gospel made at the start of the IX century by monks from the County of Meath. Here, displayed on rotation is one of the four books which make up the work, whilst footage and testimonies show the making and binding methods of manuscripts from Medieval times.
