Mljet Island - Croatia

Mljet is possibly the most charming island of the Adriatic. The majority of its territory is covered by woods, and the rest by cultivations, vineyards and small villages. In 1960 a National Park was instituted, to protect the island from building exploitation and to preserve the vegetation and the lovely coves.

The most beautiful places are Malo Jezero and Veliko Jezero, two lakes situated in the western part of the island, connected though a natural channel

In the middle of Lake Veliko Jezero lies an island with a Benedictine Monastery dating back to the XII century. Inside the monastery is the Church of Saint Mary. The island can be reached by boat four times per day from Mali Most, on the shores of Malo Jezero Lake.

The island also offers the possibility to practice diving, and to see on the depths the relic of a Roman ship of the III century, as well as a German torpedo of the Second World War.
