Also known as the Croatian Madeira, this island boasts the highest number of sun hours in all Croatia.
In summer the village Hvar is very crowded, but in the surroundings there are many things to see, so you won’t mind getting away from the city. One of the places worth to be seen is certainly the mountainous complex called Sveti Nikola, which covers the entire central territory of the island, and the plain Velo Polje, situated on north, which descents to the sea with a series of coves and creeks.
The city of Hvar has medieval origins, and is surrounded by a wall belt dating back to the XIII century. The old town is characterised by narrow streets and numerous palaces in Gothic style, finely decorated, which were built during the domain of Venice.
Surely worth a visit are the Gallery of Croatian Art, the Arsenal, Saint Stephen’s Cathedral and the Spanjol fortress.
