This church was built according to a drawing of Filippo da Campello between 1257 and 1265 on the place where the old church of S.Giorgio laid.
It hosts the remains of the Saint, together with some precious relics like Francis’s frock and breviary, a clock realized by Claire, her habit and cloak.
The façade is sober and elegant, made of the typical local stone with rose and white stripes. On the sides of the portal there are two lions, and above, the beautiful rose window in concentric circles. The structure of the complex is characterized by three enormous rampant arches leaning on the left side.
Inside there is a single nave in gothic style with cross vaults. The frescos that once decorated the inside walls are visible today mainly in the transept, with Scenes of the life of Saint Claire, of the Giotto’s school (1283). Inside the Chapel a Crucifix of the 13th century is kept, which is said to have spoken to Saint Francis.
