Cattedrale di San Rufino ad Assisi

The Dome, dedicated to the patron Saint Rufinus, was founded in the 8th century and was destroyed for the first time in the 11th century, then built again between the 13th and the 14th century.
The façade, a wonderful example of the Umbrian Romanic style,  is very austere, with three rose windows and three portals. The upper part, in the shape of triangle, has an acute arch, which was meant to serve as support for an ornament that was never built.

The inside, redesigned by Galeazzo Alessi in 1571, is made up of three naves, with ten lateral chapels. There is  also a baptismal font, where, as tradition has it, both Saint Francis and Saint Claire were christened.

In the apse is kept the wooden carved choir of the 15th century, and, at the beginning of the left aisle, the Roman tank is visible, which was used as foundation for the bell tower.

Beside the church it is possible to visit the Diocesan Museum.
