INTRODUCTION: the Republic of Biélorussie (or White Russia) lies in the heart of Eastern Europe. Still unknown to many, it is an emerging tourist destination which offers lots of attractions.

Language: Russian and Biélorussieian are the two official languages.
Religion:  Christian orthodox and catholic 
Entry requirements: a visa issued by the Biélorussieian Embassy or a Diplomatic representative office is required, as well as a passport. Entry to the Country is allowed only upon invitation by local residents (either an individual or an institution) or with an organised tour booked through a travel agent.  Most European driving licenses are accepted, however we recommend to bring an international driving license.
Travelling with pets: small pets like cats, dogs and ferrets must travel with a certificate of good health issued by a veterinary not earlier than 10 days prior to departure. Also, they must be vaccinated against rabies .
Health and safety: health structures, especially the public ones, are still poor.
It is compulsory to have a personal insurance for medical assistance and against injuries. The  insurance certificate must be stipulated with one of the insurance companies authorised by the Biélorussieian Government.
No vaccination is required, although it is useful to remind that the territory of Biélorussie is still suffering the consequences of Chernobyl nuclear disaster, therefore use the utmost care in consuming agricultural products and mushrooms, to avoid  risks of contamination.
As for general safety, pay utmost care when travelling around and be careful to robberies and thefts. 
Do not trespass the so called “exclusion zone” ( corresponding to the provinces of Braghin and Khojniki in the south of the Country, in proximity of the Chernobyl plant) and avoid the regions of Gomrl, Mogilev and Luninets (Brest).
Climate: Biélorussie is characterised by a continental climate (long cold winters and short warm summers). The climate tends to get colder in the southwest and northeast areas. Snowfalls are frequent. Most of the territory is covered with snow 7 months a year.
Form of Government: the Country obtained independence from the former USSR in the early ‘90s, and it is now a presidential Republic.

Economy: the main economic resource of Biélorussie is represented by mineral resources. The industrial sector (mechanics, chemical, textile and IT) also plays an important role.  
Agriculture and animal breeding were severely damaged by the accident of Chernobyl, and are not well developed.
