INTRODUCTION: Moldavia is a Country situated in Eastern Europe between Romania and Ukraine. Despite a difficult troubled past, Moldavia can offer visitors some lovely landscapes and suggestive villages with unique charm.

Entry requirements: passport is required, with a residual validity of 6 at least months. Visa is not necessary for tourist purposes.
It is advisable to bring the international driving licence and Green Card.
Travelling with pets: small sized pets like cats, dogs and ferrets must travel with an international travel certificate and animal passport (in force since 2004). Also, they must have the identification microchip or tattoo.
Health and safety: both private and public health structures are insufficient and not well equipped, although they can count on skilled paramedic personnel. Medicaments are not always available.
No vaccination is required. It is advisable to drink only bottled mineral water.
General safety in the country is unsteady. Better avoid the region of Trans-Dniester and use caution when travelling along the borders and out of big city centres.
Climate: the climate in Moldavia is continental, and it is strongly affected by the proximity of the Black Sea. Winters are not too cold, with the exception of the northern part of the country, where temperatures can go down to 20° degrees below zero. Summers are quite hot, with average daily temperatures over 20°C.
Form of government: independent from the Soviet Union since 25th December 1991, Moldavia is a parliamentary republic.

Economy: agriculture and food industry are the key sectors of the economy. The main cultivations are wheat, corn, oats, tobacco, sugar beet, soya, barley, sunflowers, nuts, apples and fruit. Both animal breeding and processing of milk products are good developed. Beekeeping is also practiced. Beside food industry there are also textile, steel and chemical industries. The tertiary currently employs 60% of the workforce. Though it is still weak, it represents a promising sector.
Electricity: voltage: 220 V, frequency 50 Hz. Both the European two-poles plug and the German type are in use. It is always advisable to bring plug adapters.
