INTRODUCTION: Finland (Suomi in Finnish, Finland in Swedish) is one of the Nordic States in Northern Europe. A country of enchanted atmospheres and a wild untouched nature.

Time zone: +2 GMT. Winter time applies.
Language: Finish and Swedish are the official languages. English is widely spoken.
Religion: Lutheran, with Orthodox and Catholic minorities.
Entry requirements: neither passport nor visa is required for European citizens of the Member States. A valid identity card is sufficient. Most of the European driving licenses are accepted.
Travelling with pets: small sized pets like cats, dogs and ferrets must travel with animal passport (in force since 2004) and have an identification microchip or tattoo. Also, they must be vaccinated against rabies.
Health and safety: both private and public health structures are excellent.
No vaccination is required. It is advisable to bring the magnetic card for health assistance.
General safety is good, there are no danger zones.
Climate: Finland has a cold temperate climate. Winters are cold and dry, with temperatures around -5° and -15°, and mild summers (around 20°C). During the summer dark hours are very short (usually a couple of hours), and especially in northern Finland, the sun never sets for 73 consecutive days. On the contrary, in winter the Northernmost areas are subject to the kaamos, or polar nights, and the sun remains under the horizon for 51 days, with very few hours of daylight.

Economy: Finish economy is largely advanced and dynamic, and it is mainly based on technological research of very high level. The main economic sectors are steel industry, wood processing, chemical industries, mechanic constructions and consumer electronics.
Electricity: voltage: 220 V, frequency 50 Hz . Sockets are of German type. It is advisable to bring an adapter.
Post offices, banks and communications: post offices are generally open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 17 pm, Saturday from 9 am to 13 pm. Banks are generally open from 9.15 am to 16.15 am, Monday to Friday.
