INTRODUCTION: Bosnia- Herzegovina is situated in the West Balkans. The Country represents a gate between the West and East culture, and it is sadly known for a troubled political and social past, which saw it protagonist in the last decades. Today Bosnia is enjoying a role as an emerging tourist destination.

Official currency: Bosnian Mark. After the German Mark was replaced by Euro in 1999, the Bosnian Mark was officially given the following currency exchange:

Language: Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian. Italian and English are also spoken.

Entry requirements : passport is not necessary for European Citizens, although we recommend to bring it with you. Identity cards must have a residual validity of at least 3 months. Visa is not required. Most driving licenses of European countries are valid. As for insurance, it is necessary to have a Green Card including the mention of Bosnia Herzegovina.
Travelling with pets: currently there is not a specific regulation concerning pets, only make sure to bring the certificate of good health conditions.
Health and safety: sanitary conditions and hygiene are still low compared to the European standard, though there are some improvements. No vaccination is required, but use the utmost care in consuming fresh food.
The political and social situation in Bosnia is getting better and better, even though the country hasn’t come to full normality. The ethnic issue is still present, and there are some tensions. Moreover, it is important to highlight the presence of unexploded and potentially dangerous mines outside the urban centres.
Climate: Bosnia-Herzegovina has a continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers. Climate on the coast is subject to the influence of the Mediterranean sea.
Form of government: independent from former Yugoslavia since 1992, Bosnia Herzegovina is a semi-presidential federal Republic.
Economy: Bosnia is still a poor country. The centralized economy has in fact generated a rigid and inefficient system, which is hard to remove. In the past, Bosnian economy revolved around the production of weapons and guns. Today this sector is suffering the aftermath of the war, though there are signals of recovery.
Voltage: 220 V, frequency 50 Hz . It is always recommendable to bring an adapter .
Post offices, banks and telephone: the post service is managed by the BH POSTA. Banks have the following opening hours: Monday to Friday 8 am to 17 pm. ATM machines are spread in the main cities and towns.
